Homemade Fly and Mosquito Repellent

Ingredients:

  • 1 small bowl or jar (for each room or area)
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil
  • 10 drops of eucalyptus essential oil
  • 10 drops of peppermint essential oil
  • 10 drops of tea tree essential oil
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh rosemary sprigs (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of cloves (optional)
  • 1 lemon or lime, sliced
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the base:
    • Fill each bowl or jar halfway with water.
  2. Add essential oils:
    • Add the drops of lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, and tea tree essential oils to the water. These oils have natural insect-repelling properties.
  3. Boost with vinegar and herbs:
    • Add the apple cider vinegar to enhance the scent. Vinegar helps in keeping away flies and mosquitoes. You can also add rosemary sprigs and cloves to increase the potency of the repellent, as both are known to ward off insects.
  4. Add citrus:
    • Place a few slices of lemon or lime into the mixture. Citrus fruits are another natural repellent that insects dislike.
  5. Stir and place:
    • Stir the mixture gently to combine everything. Then place the jar or bowl in the areas of your house where flies and mosquitoes are common, such as windowsills, doorways, or near sitting areas.
  6. Maintain:
    • Refresh the mixture every 2–3 days by adding more water and essential oils to keep it potent.

Pro tip:

For larger outdoor areas, consider making multiple jars and placing them strategically around patios or windows to create a natural barrier against flies and mosquitoes.

This all-natural approach can help keep those pesky insects at bay without using harsh chemicals, and it leaves your house smelling fresh!
