Grilled Fish Wrapped in Fig Leaves

Ingredients:

  • 4 fresh fish fillets (such as snapper, sea bass, or trout)
  • 8 large fig leaves, rinsed and patted dry
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 4 sprigs of fresh thyme
  • 4 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:
    • Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
    • Season both sides of the fillets with salt and pepper.
  2. Prepare the Fig Leaves:
    • Lay two fig leaves overlapping slightly on a clean surface, with the stems facing inwards.
  3. Assemble the Fish Packets:
    • Place one fish fillet in the center of the fig leaves.
    • Top the fish with a few slices of lemon, a sprig of thyme, and a few slices of garlic.
    • Drizzle a little olive oil over the top.
  4. Wrap the Fish:
    • Fold the sides of the fig leaves over the fish fillet, then fold the top and bottom, creating a secure packet.
    • Repeat the process for the remaining fish fillets.
  5. Grill the Fish:
    • Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
    • Place the fig leaf-wrapped fish packets on the grill.
    • Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The fig leaves will impart a lovely flavor to the fish while protecting it from direct heat.
  6. Serve:
    • Carefully remove the fish packets from the grill.
    • Serve the fish in the fig leaves for a beautiful presentation. Be sure to inform your guests not to eat the leaves.

Tips:

  • If you don’t have access to a grill, you can cook the fish packets in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes.
  • Feel free to add other herbs and seasonings to suit your taste.

Enjoy your delicious grilled fish wrapped in fig leaves!
