Real Madrid are gearing up for their first match of the 2024-25 season: the UEFA Super Cup final on Wednesday against Atalanta, last season’s Europa League winners. Apart from David Alaba, Carlo Ancelotti will have a full squad available.
This match in Warsaw will mark Kylian Mbappe’s debut as a Real Madrid player. The 25-year-old is the marquee signing of the summer, and while high expectations surround him in the Spanish capital, he might not start against Atalanta.
According to Diario AS, Ancelotti is considering sticking with the lineup that began the Champions League final in June. The only two changes would be forced ones: Eder Militao replacing Nacho Fernandez and Luka Modric stepping in for Toni Kroos.
This approach would leave Mbappe on the bench, although there’s a chance he could start over Rodrygo Goes in attack. Alternatively, Ancelotti might opt for the anticipated 4-3-3 formation, which could see Modric left out of the starting eleven.
Real Madrid will be eager to secure another trophy next week, but the match also presents an opportunity for Ancelotti to experiment with his lineup—especially given that he didn’t have Mbappe or Jude Bellingham available for the entire pre-season.
