Grandmother’s Classic Bread Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup hot milk
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 7 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon sunflower seed oil
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 6 cups wheat flour

Instructions:

  1. Activate the Yeast:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy.
  2. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, hot milk, and 7 tablespoons of sunflower seed oil.
  3. Mix and Knead:
    • Stir the mixture until it starts to come together. Then, turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise:
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning it once to coat the top with oil. Cover with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  5. Shape the Dough:
    • Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide it into two equal parts and shape each into a loaf. Place the loaves in greased loaf pans.
  6. Second Rise:
    • Cover the loaves and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until they have risen above the tops of the pans.
  7. Preheat and Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the loaves for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom and has a golden-brown crust.
  8. Cool:
    • Remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Enjoy your homemade bread! It’s sure to be a hit, thanks to your grandmother’s recipe.
