Homemade Beetroot Lip Balm Recipe

Looking for a natural way to add a pop of color and nourishment to your lips? A homemade beetroot lip balm is an easy, all-natural alternative to store-bought products. Rich in vitamins and antioxidants, beetroot not only gives your lips a lovely tint but also helps moisturize and protect them from dryness.

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium-sized beetroot
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax (or candelilla wax for a vegan option)
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter or cocoa butter
  • 2-3 drops of vitamin E oil (optional, for added nourishment)
  • 1-2 drops of essential oil (optional, for fragrance – peppermint, lavender, or vanilla work well)

Method:

  1. Prepare the Beetroot Tint
    • Peel and chop the beetroot into small pieces.
    • Blend the pieces in a blender or food processor until smooth.
    • Strain the juice using a fine strainer or cheesecloth to remove any pulp. You’ll only need the liquid for this recipe.
  2. Melt the Base Ingredients
    • In a double boiler (or heatproof bowl over simmering water), melt the beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter. Stir occasionally until everything is fully melted and combined.
  3. Add Beetroot Juice
    • Once the mixture has melted, remove it from heat.
    • Slowly add the beetroot juice to the melted base, stirring continuously to ensure an even color distribution. The more juice you add, the deeper the color will be. Start with a small amount and adjust based on your preference.
  4. Enhance with Vitamin E and Essential Oils (Optional)
    • If you’re adding vitamin E oil and essential oils, stir them in at this point. Vitamin E will help protect and nourish your lips, while essential oils will give your balm a pleasant fragrance.
  5. Pour into Containers
    • Once everything is mixed well, carefully pour the liquid lip balm into small lip balm tins or tubes.
    • Let it cool and solidify at room temperature for a few hours.
  6. Use and Enjoy!
    • Your homemade beetroot lip balm is now ready to use! Apply as needed to give your lips a hint of natural color and hydration.
