Aromatic Herb-Infused Rice

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati or jasmine rice
  • 2 cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional: A pinch of turmeric for color

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and ensures the rice won’t be sticky.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil or butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened and slightly golden, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add cloves and bay leaves: Add the 2 cloves and 2 bay leaves to the pan, stirring for 30 seconds to release their aromas.
  4. Toast the rice: Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir for 1-2 minutes, allowing the rice to lightly toast and absorb the flavors.
  5. Cook the rice: Pour in the water or vegetable broth, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil. If using turmeric, add it now for a golden hue. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is fully absorbed.
  6. Fluff and serve: Remove the bay leaves and cloves before serving. Fluff the rice with a fork and enjoy!

Result:

This herb-infused rice is aromatic, flavorful, and pairs well with a wide variety of dishes such as roasted vegetables, grilled meats, or curries. The cloves add a warm, slightly sweet note, while the bay leaves bring a subtle earthiness. You’ll love the rich flavor combination!
