Tired of store-bought bread that’s always stale or just doesn’t quite cut it? It’s time to take bread-making into your own hands. This recipe for homemade quick bread is easy to follow, requires minimal ingredients, and delivers a fresh, delicious loaf every time.
Ingredients:
- Bread flour: 2 ½ cups (320 grams)
- Water: ¾ cup + 2 tbsp. (210 ml)
- Brewer’s yeast: 1 tsp. (3g) or dry yeast: ½ tsp. (2g)
- Sugar: 1 tsp.
- Salt: 1 tsp.
- Olive oil: 1 tbsp.
Instructions:
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the bread flour, sugar, and salt.
- Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm water (about 105-115°F or 40-46°C) with the yeast and sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Shape: Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Second Rise: Cover the loaf with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips:
- For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of honey or molasses to the dough.
- Experiment with different herbs and spices to create unique flavor combinations.
- For a heartier bread, add some whole wheat flour to the recipe.
