Calcium-Rich Eggshell Powder Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 12 eggshells (from boiled or baked eggs)
  • Water (for boiling)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the eggshells:
    • After using the eggs, set aside the eggshells.
    • Rinse the eggshells thoroughly with water to remove any remaining egg white or yolk.
  2. Boil the eggshells:
    • Bring a pot of water to a boil.
    • Add the rinsed eggshells and let them boil for about 10 minutes. This process sterilizes the shells and removes any bacteria.
  3. Dry the eggshells:
    • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
    • Place the boiled eggshells on a baking sheet in a single layer.
    • Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the shells are completely dry but not browned.
  4. Grind the eggshells:
    • Once dried, allow the eggshells to cool.
    • Use a coffee grinder, food processor, or blender to grind the eggshells into a fine powder.
  5. Store:
    • Transfer the finely ground eggshell powder into an airtight container.
    • Store in a cool, dry place.

How to Use Eggshell Powder:

  1. Smoothies: Add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon to your morning smoothie for a calcium boost.
  2. Baked Goods: Add a pinch to your bread or cake recipes without altering the taste or texture.
  3. Homemade Dog Food: If you make dog food at home, a small amount of eggshell powder can boost your pet’s calcium intake.
  4. Fertilizer: Sprinkle eggshell powder around your garden or houseplants to improve soil health and boost plant growth.

Tip: Always be sure to use organic, clean eggs to avoid any harmful chemicals from the shells.

Eggshells, which are often discarded, are a rich source of calcium and other minerals, making them a fantastic addition to both your diet and garden. They’re worth their weight in gold!
