This recipe is based on recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Ingredients:
- 1 liter (4 cups) clean water
- 3.5 grams (2 teaspoons) table salt
- 2.5 grams (1 ½ teaspoons) baking soda
- 20 grams (4 teaspoons) sugar (or glucose powder if available)
Instructions:
- Measure: Carefully measure all the ingredients.
- Mix: In a clean container, combine all the ingredients: water, salt, baking soda, and sugar. Stir well until everything dissolves.
- Serve: You can drink this solution throughout the day, especially after episodes of diarrhea or vomiting.
Tips:
- Make sure the water you use is clean and safe. If you are unsure about the water quality, boil it for at least 1 minute and then let it cool before using it in the ORS.
- You can adjust the taste slightly by adding a squeeze of lemon or orange juice.
- This ORS solution is most effective when used alongside other medical treatments for cholera prescribed by a healthcare professional.
Remember:
- Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for cholera.
- Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect you or someone you know has cholera.
