Ingredients:
- 1 large fresh ginger root (about 100-150 grams)
- 4 cups water
- 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice (optional)
- 1-2 tablespoons honey or sweetener of choice (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ginger:
- Wash the ginger thoroughly to remove any dirt or debris. You can peel it if you prefer, but leaving the peel on is fine.
- Cut the ginger into small chunks or slices to make it easier to blend.
- Blend the Ginger:
- Place the ginger pieces into a blender.
- Add about 2 cups of water to the blender (use enough to help the blender process the ginger).
- Blend on high speed until the ginger is fully broken down into a pulp.
- Strain the Mixture:
- Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a bowl or pitcher.
- Pour the blended ginger mixture through the strainer. Use a spoon to press the ginger pulp down to extract as much juice as possible.
- Discard the ginger pulp or save it for other uses (such as making tea).
- Dilute and Flavor:
- Add the remaining 2 cups of water to the ginger juice. You can adjust the amount of water depending on how strong you want the juice.
- Add lemon or lime juice for a tangy flavor, and sweeten with honey or your preferred sweetener if desired.
- Chill and Serve:
- Transfer the ginger juice to a bottle or jug and refrigerate it for at least 30 minutes to chill.
- Serve the ginger juice cold over ice or as a refreshing drink.
Tips:
- For a stronger ginger flavor, use less water or increase the amount of ginger.
- Ginger juice can also be used as a base for teas, smoothies, or cocktails.
Enjoy your refreshing homemade ginger juice!
