Ingredients:
- 4 fresh fish fillets (such as snapper, sea bass, or trout)
- 8 large fig leaves, rinsed and patted dry
- 2 lemons, sliced
- 4 sprigs of fresh thyme
- 4 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Fish:
- Rinse the fish fillets under cold water and pat them dry with a paper towel.
- Season both sides of the fillets with salt and pepper.
- Prepare the Fig Leaves:
- Lay two fig leaves overlapping slightly on a clean surface, with the stems facing inwards.
- Assemble the Fish Packets:
- Place one fish fillet in the center of the fig leaves.
- Top the fish with a few slices of lemon, a sprig of thyme, and a few slices of garlic.
- Drizzle a little olive oil over the top.
- Wrap the Fish:
- Fold the sides of the fig leaves over the fish fillet, then fold the top and bottom, creating a secure packet.
- Repeat the process for the remaining fish fillets.
- Grill the Fish:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- Place the fig leaf-wrapped fish packets on the grill.
- Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The fig leaves will impart a lovely flavor to the fish while protecting it from direct heat.
- Serve:
- Carefully remove the fish packets from the grill.
- Serve the fish in the fig leaves for a beautiful presentation. Be sure to inform your guests not to eat the leaves.
Tips:
- If you don’t have access to a grill, you can cook the fish packets in a preheated oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 15-20 minutes.
- Feel free to add other herbs and seasonings to suit your taste.
Enjoy your delicious grilled fish wrapped in fig leaves!
