Homemade Coconut Water and Aloe Vera Soap

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz (454 g) coconut oil (moisturizing and provides a rich lather)
  • 8 oz (227 g) olive oil (gentle and conditioning)
  • 4 oz (113 g) shea butter (adds creaminess and extra moisture)
  • 4 oz (113 g) castor oil (increases lather)
  • 8 oz (227 g) coconut water (hydrating and refreshing)
  • 4 oz (113 g) aloe vera gel (soothing and healing)
  • 4 oz (113 g) lye (sodium hydroxide) (for saponification)
  • Essential oils (optional) (e.g., lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus for fragrance)
  • Dried herbs (optional) (such as dried lavender or chamomile for added texture)

Tools:

  • Soap mold
  • Digital scale
  • Stick blender
  • Heat-resistant containers
  • Safety gear (gloves, goggles, and long sleeves)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Workspace:
Put on your safety gear. Ensure your workspace is clean, well-ventilated, and organized.
  2. Mix Lye and Coconut Water:
Slowly and carefully add the lye to the chilled coconut water (never the other way around). Stir gently until the lye fully dissolves. Be cautious, as the mixture will heat up. Set aside to cool to around 100°F (38°C).
  3. Melt the Oils and Butter:
In a heat-resistant container, melt the coconut oil, olive oil, shea butter, and castor oil together. Once melted, let the oils cool to about 100°F (38°C).
  4. Blend Aloe Vera Gel:
Add the aloe vera gel to the cooled oils and stir gently.
  5. Combine Lye and Oils:
Once both the lye solution and oils are at a similar temperature (around 100°F or 38°C), carefully pour the lye solution into the oils. Use a stick blender to blend until the mixture reaches “trace” — this is when the soap thickens to a pudding-like consistency.
  6. Add Essential Oils and Herbs:
If desired, add a few drops of essential oils for fragrance and any dried herbs for texture. Stir gently to combine.
  7. Pour into Molds:
Pour the soap mixture into your prepared soap mold, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  8. Cure the Soap:
Cover the soap mold with a towel to retain heat and let it sit undisturbed for 24-48 hours. Once solid, unmold the soap and cut it into bars. Allow the soap to cure in a cool, dry place for 4-6 weeks. This ensures that the soap fully hardens and becomes milder.
  9. Enjoy:
After curing, your coconut water and aloe vera soap is ready to use! Enjoy its refreshing and moisturizing qualities.

Tips:

  • Make sure to handle lye with care, as it can be dangerous if mishandled.
  • Allow the soap to cure fully before using to ensure it’s gentle on the skin.

This homemade soap will provide a luxurious and refreshing treat for your skin!
