Homemade Laundry Detergent

Ingredients

  1. Washing Soda (Sodium Carbonate) – 1 kg
  2. Bar Soap (like Fels-Naptha or any natural soap) – 1 bar (around 200g)

Instructions

  1. Grate the Soap:
    • Use a cheese grater or food processor to finely grate the bar soap until it becomes a fine powder.
  2. Mix the Ingredients:
    • In a large bowl or container, combine the grated soap and washing soda. Mix well until fully combined.
  3. Store the Detergent:
    • Transfer the mixture into an airtight container. A glass jar or a plastic container with a lid works great.
  4. Usage:
    • For a standard load of laundry, use 1-2 tablespoons of your homemade detergent. Adjust the amount depending on the size and soil level of the load.

Tips

  • Optional Additions: If desired, you can add a few drops of essential oils for fragrance.
  • Stir Before Use: Give the mixture a quick stir before each use to ensure even distribution.

Estimated Cost

  • Washing Soda: Approximately €2-3 for 1 kg.
  • Bar Soap: Approximately €1-2 for one bar.
  • Total Cost: Around €3-5 for a year’s supply, depending on the brand and where you shop.
