Ingredients:
- 10 ripe avocados
- A blender or food processor
- A fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
- A spatula
- A bowl
- A cooking pot
- A thermometer (optional)
- A clean, dry glass jar or bottle for storage
Instructions:
- Prepare the Avocados:
- Cut each avocado in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh using a spoon.
- Place the avocado flesh into a blender or food processor.
- Blend the Avocado:
- Blend the avocado flesh until you achieve a smooth and creamy consistency. It should look like a thick puree.
- Cook the Avocado Puree:
- Transfer the avocado puree into a cooking pot.
- Heat the puree over low to medium heat, stirring frequently. This process will help release the oil from the avocado.
- As the puree heats up, you’ll notice it changing color and separating into oil and solids. Continue heating until the solids start turning dark brown and the oil is clearly visible.
- If you have a thermometer, you can monitor the temperature to ensure it doesn’t exceed 250°F (120°C) to avoid burning the avocado.
- Extract the Oil:
- Once the oil has separated from the solids and is visible on the surface, remove the pot from heat.
- Allow the mixture to cool slightly.
- Place a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a bowl and pour the mixture through it to strain out the solids.
- Use a spatula to press the solids and extract as much oil as possible.
- Store the Avocado Oil:
- Transfer the strained avocado oil into a clean, dry glass jar or bottle.
- Seal the container tightly and store it in a cool, dark place.
- Homemade avocado oil can last for up to 6 months if stored properly.
Tips:
- Choose ripe but not overripe avocados for the best yield.
- Use the leftover avocado solids in baking or as a natural fertilizer for your garden.
Now you have your very own homemade avocado oil, perfect for cooking, skin care, or hair treatments!
